Karepakach ( curry leaves) pitla.

Dear friends,

I am posting my first recipe. Karepakach pitla, that is curry leaves pitla. Which is a very healthy curry. Easy to make and also good for the  cold and chilly weather.

Ingredients:- a bunch of curry leaves, 1 tbs cumin seeds, 1 tbs pepper , 1/2 an inch of dried ginger, pinch of asafoetida, 2-3 tbs of Tur dal, 4-5 red chilies, 1/2 lemon size tamarind, salt to taste, 4/5 tbs oil, mustard seeds for seasoning.

Procedure;- Mix all the ingredients and grind till paste. Take a frying pan, add oil, when its hot add mustard seeds, and then the paste and add little more water so that it’ll help to boil.

Let the pitla boil until  the raw smell goes.Keep stirring in between.

if you want to store the Pitla for more than a week add more oil for boiling. You can store this in the refrigerator and use everyday with a little hot rice.

Eating this everyday   increase iron in the blood.

If you fry all the ingredients (except tamarind) and make a powder and store it  in a container and can use more than a month. This is a compulsory  after delivery diet in every TM family.

Hope you will try this easy and tasty recipe.Image

My family loves pithla…this sounds like more wintry pithla. Unique cause of the ground paste. Do you use raw tur dal? or fry it. I even like the idea of making the powder. Will try this soon. Thank you for posting the recipe Shashirekha.
